The Savannah Way in Tropical North Queensland
The Savannah Way stretches across 3,700 km of Australia’s tropical savanna, from Cairns to Broome. It takes you clear across the top of Australia, visiting some of the most stunning landscapes and attractions in Australia.
The Undara Lava Tubes are the first of the major attractions on the Savannah Way, being just a half day out of Cairns.

The Savannah Way website has some excellent resources to help you plan your trip.
There are state based maps of the Savannah Way available from the site -the Queensland map is shown here (click on the map for a larger version).
There is also a great interactive map (click on sample below to reach it) that lets you calculate distances between major towns, and find Visitor Information Centres, National Parks, fuel stops, as well as providing maps of roads and towns.
For detailed planning, make sure you visit the Queensland Tourism site, where they have a detailed itinerary of Coast to Coast the Savannah Way.
Through ecologically sustainable tourism principles, Savannah Guides enhance regional lifestyles while protecting and conserving natural and cultural resources in the tropical savannahs of northern Australia.
